"Locating Family Members in Old Business Records"
Presented by Madeline Yanov April 23, 2026 6:00 pm via Zoom
This presentation will k explore how to use employment‑ _related and business records to identify and track ancestors in places where traditional vital or census records may be missing.
Drawing on examples from a range of industries, Madeline will demonstrate how to find and interpret sources such as employee files, payroll and labor records, union and company publications, city directories, and related materials to uncover occupations, residences, and relationships that can link family members across time and place. Attendees will learn practical strategies for where to look for these records today—archives, libraries, historical societies, specialized databases, and local repositories—and how to integrate these findings into a broader research plan. Madeline Yanov is the owner of Time Travel Genealogy and has more than 30 years of genealogy experience, specializing in American research with extensive work in European records, including Irish, British, Slovak, Russian, and German lines. Before becoming a full‑time genealogist, she worked as a paralegal, experience that sharpened her skills in analyzing records and conducting in‑depth document discovery. She has helped numerous clients locate and reunite with relatives, serves as President Emeritus of the Contra Costa County Genealogical Society, and is an active member of the Association of Professional Genealogist NOTE: Due to recent attempts by 3rd party bad actors to infiltrate our meetings, all attendees are required to personally identify themselves by turning on their camera and mic to return a greeting from the host. You may turn off your camera during the presentation.
