Who can join and what does it cost?

Membership is open to anyone who supports the Society’s purposes. 2025 dues: Adult $20/year and Next Generation $10/year. Memberships expire December 31 each year.

Do you have an online genealogy course for beginners?

Yes. We have an ai-assisted, self-directed genealogy course on our website.

How can I take an online course for how to do Native American research?

We will soon have an online ai-assisted self-directed course in Native American research.

Can you help me learn how to research my Native American ancestors who were part of one of the Five Civilized Tribes?

Are your programs free—do I need to be a member?

Yes. All programs—virtual and in-person—are free for members and non-members.

Yes, you will find many ways to find more information about your family in Muskogee and Muskogee County in our online indexes..

What indexes and records can I search?

Marriage indexes (1890–1948), cemetery indexes, Quarterly indexes (1983–2016), funeral home record indexes, and Greenhill Cemetery burial indexes (1867–2006).

What is the First Families program?

Certificates for descendants of early Muskogee County residents: Territorial (on/before Nov. 16, 1907) or Early Family (Nov. 17, 1907–Dec. 31, 1920).

How do I join the RootsMagic Users Group?

Attend any scheduled RootsMagic session listed on our events calendar. All skill levels are welcome and there’s no separate sign-up or fee. Bring your questions—and a laptop if you have one.

When and where does the Society meet?

Meeting dates, times, and locations are posted on our events calendar and social channels. Programs may be in-person, virtual, or hybrid depending on the month.

Do I need to be a member to attend programs?

No. Our programs are open to everyone. Membership is encouraged to support ongoing resources and activities.

How can I pay my membership dues?

After submitting the membership form, you can pay online (no account required) or mail a check/money order to: Muskogee County Genealogical Society, PO Box 444, Muskogee, OK 74402.

Can non-members request research, and how do I submit a request?

Yes. Anyone may submit a research request. Follow the instructions on our Research Request page and mail your request and payment as directed.

How long do research requests take?

Turnaround times vary by topic and current volume. We’ll acknowledge your request and let you know if we need clarification.

Where can I access local genealogy resources in person?

Visit the Muskogee Public Library’s Local History & Genealogy Department for Dawes Rolls, enrollment cards/applications, local newspapers, and court records.

What years are covered by the Greenhill Cemetery index?

The index spans from the earliest known burial in 1867 through April 5, 2006. Check the Greenhill Cemetery page for updates or additional details.

Do you have Muskogee County cemetery information?

Yes, you can search for information about Muskogee County and Muskogee cemeteries on our website.

Do you have information about closed funeral homes in Muskogee?

Yes, we have locate information about the records of many closed Muskogee funeral homes on our website.

Do you publish a newsletter and how can I access past issues?

You can search our old Quarterly journals on the site. For access to specific articles or past issues.
