Intermarried whites in the cherokee nation between the years 1865 and 1887

This article by A. H. Murchison of Muskogee, OK outlines the interracial marriage laws present within the Cherokee Nation during the Reconstruction Era. Included is a list interracial marriages in six of the nine districts in the Nation that were reported within the territory.

You may download and/or print out the introduction (the flipbook below) to the article as printed in the Chronicles of Oklahoma, Volume VI, September 1928, Number 3. A bullet point summary, created by AI, is here.

The whole Chronicles article is available here in order to preserve the recorded details for each of the six reporting districts.

For you convenience in searching for a marriage, the names listed in each district have been indexed. All data was transcribed word-for-word from the Chronicles article.

Transcription errors are easy to make so unfortunately, we can't guarantee that all information is accurate. As with all information found on the internet, use what you find here as clues to further research. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (free) (or other .pdf viewer) to view  these indexes.
